Personal

Tyler became the Pastor-Teacher of Forest Baptist Church in 2006. Before that he served on staff at Forest for 8 years in numerous positions at the church.

He graduated in 2012 (D.Min – Expository Preaching) and in 2007 (M.Div in Pastoral Ministry) from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. He also graduated in 2004 from Liberty Theological Seminary with his M.A.R and from Liberty University with his B.S. in Religion.

Tyler is also an adjunct professor with Liberty University. He teaches Preaching on-campus as well as Pastoral Leadership and Bible courses online. He has been published in Preaching magazine and in The Popular Encyclopedia of Church History. (See links to the right.)

Tyler was born in Tennessee and raised in Alabama.

He loves King Jesus, his family, his church, and Hot-Pockets (in that order).

Family

The church, and all those around him, unanimously agree that Tyler definitely “married up” when in 2002 he married his best friend and partner in ministry, Rebecca.

Together they have six energetic and wonderful children: Samuel Spurgeon (’05), Jeremiah Tyndale (’07), Solomon Livingstone (’08), Josiah Wilberforce (’10), Abraham Moffat (’11), and Faith Elliot (’12). (Yes, as you can tell – we are big fans of church history and adoption.)

When he’s not at Forest, Tyler enjoys reading, writing, taking naps, playing/watching soccer, some golf, spending time with his ridiculously awesome family and personally updating his profile on the church website. 😉

Preaching

As a preacher, Tyler seeks to “rightly divide the Word of truth” by explaining God’s Word accurately and applying it relevantly. He primarily preaches expository messages that are verse by verse through books of the Bible. While much could be said about the definition of expository preaching, in short, it means that Tyler seeks to identify the point of a particular text of Scripture and apply it to today’s hearers as the particular point of a sermon.
